Heraeus expands in SE Asia via acquisition

As of May 1, 2006, Heraeus has acquired the business of the Singapore-based sputter target manufacturer, Electronic Materials Technologies Pte. Ltd., from its former owner International Specialty Alloys, USA. Through this acquisition, Heraeus is expanding its business in sputter targets for the display industry, which is experiencing a strong boom, particularly in Asia.

"The investment fits perfectly into our Asia strategy in the field of coating materials. In doing this, we are deliberately concentrating on the promising market for flat-panel displays (LCD technology) where the proportion of sputter coats is very high," are the comments Dr Peter Köhler, Managing Director of W.C. Heraeus, on the latest acquisition.
The former managing director, Oskar Roidl, will assume the position of operations manager and thus continue his successful activity. The newly acquired unit will be integrated into the already existing Heraeus Singapore Ltd. (HSL). Angeline Yap, Managing Director of HSL, clearly welcomes the advantages for the Singapore location. "The expansion of our product range and our customer service will bring us a definite competitive advantage," explains Yap.
