II-VI Incorporated Bookings Set New Record

Another company in buoyant mood was II-VI Inc., which reported results for its first quarter ended September 30, 2006. Revenues for the quarter had gone up by 12% to $60,797,000 from $54,391,000 in the first quarter of the last fiscal year. Net earnings for the quarter were $7,498,000. These compare with net earnings of $6,749,000 in the first quarter of last fiscal year.

Francis J. Kramer, president and COO said, "We are pleased to report record bookings despite the normal seasonality of European business during our first fiscal quarter. Our businesses met the markets' added demands and produced a 12% increase in total revenues compared to the same quarter one year ago. Segment earnings in the infrared optics business were comparable with the year-ago quarter and carried with it higher levels of stock option and performance share expense, while the combined profit from our other business units increased nearly $1.4 m from the previous period."
