Veeco 2006 MBE Award Winners
Veeco Instruments Inc., co-sponsoring two major MBE awards
this year, recognized individuals whose innovations have significantly
advanced the field of MBE. Each award consists of a monetary
honorarium and an engraved plaque.
The 2006 Al Cho Award, co-sponsored by Veeco Instruments
Inc. and other participants within the MBE community, has
been awarded to Professor Yoshiji Horikoshi of Waseda University
in Tokyo, Japan. Professor Horikoshi was presented the award
at this year’s International MBE Conference that took
place in Tokyo, Japan on September 7 for his pioneering contributions
to MBE with the invention of Migration Enhanced Epitaxy (MEE),
producing a near-perfect atomic surface arrangement.
The 2006 MBE Innovator Award, co-sponsored by Veeco Instruments
Inc. and the North American MBE organization, has been awarded
to Dr. William E. Hoke of Raytheon. Dr. Hoke was presented
the award at this year’s NAMBE Conference that took
place at Duke University in Durham for his outstanding contributions
in metamorphic growth of HEMTs, HBTs, and PIN photodetectors.

these awards acknowledging the innovators that expand MBE

The purpose of both the NAMBE and International MBE organizations
is to share the latest research discoveries in MBE and the
new materials and devices based upon MBE, as well as progress
in further developing MBE as a high-volume manufacturing technology.
