New cross license for Cree and Nichia

Nichia, a leading manufacturer and supplier of gallium nitride-based optoelectronics devices, has signed a new patent cross license agreement with Cree Inc of North Carolina, regarding light emitting diode (LED) technology for solid-state white lighting.

This agreement is to complete the agreement for patent cross license for gallium nitride-based LED chips, into which both companies entered in November 2002. Nichia aims to maintain leadership in the competitive LED lighting market.
