Rohm and Haas new R&D facility for China

Rohm and Haas Co has selected a site for a new China R&D center in eastern China at Shanghai. The center will be located on eight acres in the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in the Pudong New Area district.

The specialist chemical company has been operating in China since 1979 and has 1,000 employees there. Now it is to build a five-story administration building and a four-story research building expected to open in mid-2006.

It will initially employ 300 people but could eventually handle 1,500. It will house researchers, technical service personnel and sales professionals. The company is investing $30n in the project but could spending as much as $60m for long-term expansion.

R&Hwith headquarters in Philadelphia, has 30 technical centers worldwide.
