Endwave ships switch arrays to L-3 SafeView
Endwave Corporation announced initial production deliveries
to L-3 SafeView for the company's new Phase II switch array
designs. Last quarter, SafeView, Inc., a Santa Clara-based
subsidiary of L-3 Communications, granted qualification approval
for Endwave's Phase II switch arrays, and awarded Endwave
with its first production order for the new RF design. L-3
SafeView will begin full system integration of the more cost-effective
switch arrays into their personnel screening portals immediately.
Endwave supplies the millimetre-wave hardware for SafeView's
advanced portal scanner, SafeScout, which is deployed at security
checkpoints in the USA, Middle East, Asia and Europe for the
detection of explosives, weapons and contraband. A key enabler
to the widespread adoption of SafeView's portal scanner potentially
lies in the cost effectiveness of the millimetre-wave electronics.
Endwave has addressed this market requirement by applying
a proprietary, next-generation technology called Epsilon Packaging
to the Phase II switch arrays for SafeView.
Epsilon Packaging is an advanced multi-layer substrate and
high-performance RF module package, all in one. It replaces
costly, heavy metal housings that are the conventional method
of RF module packaging with inexpensive metallized polymer
substrates. In the absence of bulky machined metal components,
Epsilon packaged subsystems are lightweight and highly producible.
With the large number of Endwave switch arrays delivered into
SafeView's portal scanner, the reduced packaging cost on each
product is expected to improve the overall cost effectiveness
of the system.
"SafeView's qualification approval of our Epsilon-based
Phase II switch arrays marked an exciting milestone for our
company," said Ed Keible, Chief Executive Officer and
President of Endwave Corporation. "This culminated a
year-long development effort behind the commercialization
of our Epsilon technology, which dramatically lowers the cost
and improves the manufacturability of our products for applications
like SafeView's portals."
"Endwave has been a strategic partner for SafeView
since the inception of our original venture-backed company,"
said Rick Rowe, Chief Executive Officer of SafeView. "With
L-3's acquisition of SafeView last quarter, our improved global
reach and distribution network will play a key role in maximizing
SafeView's growth opportunities and launching the company
into the next expansion phase - and Endwave will continue
to play an instrumental role in helping us achieve our cost
reduction and growth targets," added Rowe.
