Firecomms Publishes Reliability Data on RCLED and VCSEL Products

Firecomms Ltd., of Cork, Ireland, has published significant data on the reliability of its core RCLED and VCSEL compound semiconductor devices.

The new test data for the RCLED device indicates that the company’s RCLED, in various packages and integrations, has proven to operate stably within specification in excess of 400,000 hours. Firecomms RCLED devices are integrated in Ethernet, MOST, and 1394 transceivers with applications in consumer, industrial, and automotive markets.

“We are delighted with this data as it demonstrates that our fiber optic transceivers can operate reliably for years in various kinds of networking applications,” says Firecomms’ Chief Operations Officer Dr. Torsten Wipiejewski. “We’re seeing lifetime reliability levels that previously have been reached only by some LEDs and longer wavelength lasers.”
Firecomms also is building significant reliability data on its VCSEL product, which operates over 35,000 hours before a one percent failure.

Added Dr. Wipiejewski, “As these VCSELS are the world’s lowest wavelength production devices, we are very pleased with this preliminary data."

Firecomms leads the development and long-range testing of new fiber optic devices. The company will continue to perform rigorous environmental testing on several products to meet automotive and industrial networking standards.

The reliability data and detailed specifications for Firecomms’ RCLED and VCSEL products are available on the company web site.
